Circuit ("we," "our," or "us") operates a curated mentorship matching platform that connects students and early-career professionals with experienced mentors in law, venture capital, technology, and adjacent fields. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use Circuit's website and services.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

When you create an account or complete your profile, we may collect:

• Name and email address
• Professional background: job title, organization, career stage
• Career interests, goals, and areas of focus
• Educational background (undergraduate institution, graduate school)
• Optional demographic signals: hometown, first-generation professional status, career change history
• Profile photo (optional, uploaded by you)
• Personality and interest fields: favorite book, podcast, and similar humanizing details
• Written responses: bio, career milestones, goals, what you wish you'd known

Information generated through use

• Weekly intent submissions (your stated focus for the week)
• Match history (which mentor profiles were shown to you)
• Connection request history (requests sent and received)
• Post-call feedback submitted through the platform
• Login activity and session timestamps

Technical information

• IP address and approximate location
• Browser type and operating system
• Pages visited and features used
• Referral URL

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Create and maintain your account
• Generate weekly mentor match recommendations using our matching algorithm
• Improve the quality and relevance of matches over time
• Send transactional emails (match notifications, request updates, scheduling confirmations)
• Provide customer support
• Detect and prevent fraud or policy violations
• Comply with legal obligations

We use semantic embeddings of your profile text to power our matching algorithm. These embeddings are numerical representations of your professional profile — they are not human-readable and are used solely for computing match scores.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

• With other Circuit users: Your public mentor profile (if you are a mentor) is visible to mentees on the platform. Mentee profiles are only shared with mentors when a connection request is made.
• With service providers: We use Supabase (Postgres database, authentication, and file storage — hosted on AWS), Vercel (hosting), Resend (transactional email), and Voyage AI (embedding generation). These providers process data only as directed by us and are contractually bound to protect it.
• For legal compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of Circuit or its users.
• In a business transfer: If Circuit is acquired or merges, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting hello@joincircuit.co. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

Some information may be retained in anonymized or aggregated form for analytics and product improvement.

6. Your Rights

For users in the European Economic Area (GDPR)

You have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; request deletion of your data; object to or restrict processing of your data; request a portable copy of your data (data export); withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

You have the right to: know what personal information is collected about you; know whether your personal information is sold or disclosed and to whom; opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell personal information); request deletion of your personal information; not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.

7. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

• Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for all data
• Row Level Security (RLS) on all database tables, preventing unauthorized access between accounts
• Authentication handled by Supabase Auth, which is SOC 2 Type II compliant
• Encrypted database storage
• Profile photos stored in access-controlled cloud storage

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we take reasonable precautions, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Cookies and Tracking

Circuit uses session cookies for authentication and to maintain your login state. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels. We may use basic analytics (page views, session counts) to understand how the product is used.

9. Children's Privacy

Circuit is not directed to individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by email or by posting a notice on the platform. Your continued use of Circuit after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
